Haren allowed one run and six hits in six innings for his first major league win as the St. Louis Cardinals hung on for a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Haren (1-2) walked two and struck out three. The 22-year-old righthander gave up a home run to Alex Cora in the fourth inning but escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth.

Recalled from Class AAA Memphis on June 30, Haren has not allowed more than two earned runs in three of his four major league starts.

Activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, Brown (10-5) allowed two runs - one earned - and five hits in six innings. He struck out six without a walk but nevertheless suffered his fourth straight loss.

Scott Rolen homered and scored twice and Albert Pujols and J.D. Drew had two hits apiece for the Cardinals, who snapped a two-game slide.

Jolbert Cabrera had two hits for Los Angeles, which saw its three-game winning streak end.
