| Exegetics Launches DNA Kit
BLACKSBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2003--Exegetics Incorporated, announced today the release of the Print ID(TM) Kit and PrintID(TM) card, the "first of its kind" DNA sampling kit. The kit, designed to be easy to use, non-invasive and highly accurate, includes a special hypoallergenic proprietary tape inside. "Our goal was to develop a new process with a targeted DNA read accuracy of up to 100 percent that can be administered accurately by anyone, without the fear of handling bodily fluids that may be diseased. This product truly is a game changer," said Richard Fenrich, founder and CEO of Exegetics. The process involves opening a "metallic Mylar foil bag" and removing the PrintID(TM) card. The user then opens and applies the card to the adult's, child's or infant's forehead as one would a band-aid. After gently removing the PrintID(TM) card, the user seals the card and inserts it back inside the archival bag. The DNA sample now is contained on the proprietary tape. The creation of Print ID(TM) Kit was a rather daunting task due to the criteria set by Exegetics to create a safe, simple and effective product at a price range that would be affordable to the general public. To create such a product required a substantial investment from Exegetics for internal development and testing. The internal effort was aided by partnering with a South Korean firm on technology and patent development (U.S. Patent Number 6,355,439: "Method for obtaining human skin DNA samples with an adhesive sheet"). Exegetics hired Susannah Wurgler-Murphy who holds a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology from Harvard Medical School and a biology degree from M.I.T. to lead a team that ensured the process was held to the highest scientific standards. "In our test cases 100% of the people sampled had 100% of the genetic markers read," said Wurgler-Murphy. In the past, testing devices like the buccal swab had to be inserted into an adult's or child's mouth and then very carefully dried or immediately tested or else the DNA degrades through natural processes. Now, the Print ID(TM) Kit removes the moisture issues and the fear of the invasive nature of the swab. This aids in testing children. BizVantage Beyond the news: when knowing counts. "The applications in the marketplace are wide and varied due to the user friendly nature of the PrintID(TM) Kit. This breakthrough could also apply to homeland security, forensics, and medical diagnostics," said Jon Tulloch, Vice President of Exegetics.
