Mega Millions Consortium President Penelope Kyle, who is also executive director of the Virginia Lottery, said, "This is incredible news for Mega Millions. Bringing Texas to Mega Millions is like winning the lottery for us."

Kyle said the addition of Texas, the second most populous state in the nation, means a much larger player-base for the Mega Millions game, which, in turn, means more game play, leading to faster-growing and larger jackpots.

Mega Millions, formerly the Big Game, holds the current record for the largest jackpot in North American history -- $363 million in May of 2000.

Mega Millions is currently played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia and Washington.
