FUKUOKA, Japan, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The world's oldest man, according to the Guinness Book of Records, died in Japan, at age 114 and six months.

Yukichi Chuganji, who died in his sleep at his home late Sunday in Ogori, Japan, attributed his longevity to a glass of milk every morning, the Mainichi Daily News reported. He also had a healthy appetite and had a special taste for beef.

"About three days ago he said, 'I know all living things perish in the end but I hope my day has not come yet,'" said Chuganji's 74-year-old daughter, Kyoko.

Chuganji, who worked as a silkworm breeder before becoming a bank clerk, was unable to leave his home recently. But he never lost his enthusiasm to know what was going on in the world and always asked his daughter to read the day's main news at the dinner table, the daughter said.

His funeral was scheduled for Tuesday.

The world's oldest person -- a woman -- 116-year-old Kamato Hongo, lives in Kagoshima, Japan.
