MILWAUKEE, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday named Terry Porter as their new head coach. Porter, who has just one year of professional coaching experience after spending last season as an assistant with Sacramento, succeeds George Karl, who was fired on July 20. Serious & personalized business, investment and technology intelligence for a serious advantage - BizVantage! "We have a good mix of players," Porter said at a news conference. "We have youth and we have experience. We have a playoff-caliber team." Porter, 40, was chosen by Portland in the first round of the 1985 draft. He was the Trail Blazers' starting point guard for 10 seasons, and helped them reach two NBA Finals. He also played with Minnesota, Miami, and San Antonio before retiring following the 2001-02 season. Karl spent five seasons in Milwaukee and guided the Bucks to Game Seven of the 2001 Eastern Conference finals. He was fired last month after his team was eliminated in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs by New Jersey. His $7 million salary was the highest among all NBA coaches.
