Simon had submitted her board application for a $990,000 one-bedroom apartment in The Dakota, the apartment building that John Lennon once lived, across from Central Park. Simon, who met with the board last May, is accused of being "rude and disrespectful" and demanded "that the board, as a condition of her approval, permit her to install a second bathroom or powder room in the apartment," the New York Post reported. Steven Hochberg, Simon's lawyer, wrote in a letter that the Dakota board was to blame for the bad meeting because it was was "rude and accusatory." "The board was very aggressive and impertinent in questioning Ms. Simon from the beginning of the interview. They questioned why someone of her stature would be purchasing a one-bedroom apartment," and suggested the 58-year-old singer was buying the apartment for her children and not herself, his letter said.
