as a leading embedded 8-bit network solution provider

ZiLOG, Inc. (OTCBB:ZILG), the creator of the Z80 microprocessor and a leading innovator of integrated 8-bit microcontroller solutions, today announced the release of its own royalty-free, full-featured TCP/IP protocol stack for the eZ80Acclaim!(TM) product family and all ZiLOG eZ80 microprocessor platforms.

ZiLOG's scalable architecture provides a full range of Ethernet features for small to large applications without performance degradation. The TCP/IP protocol stack is loaded into Flash memory, ensuring flexibility and easy upgrading as ZiLOG continues to improve its embedded networking implementation.

The new protocol stack gives design engineers direct access to standard networking technology that's both scalable and interoperable on the Internet. Enhanced API documentation and sample code simplify engineering integration. The stack makes components such as ZiLOG's award-winning eZ80Acclaim! family of high-performance microcontrollers ideal for the Global Packet Radio Service (GPRS) market, and for both wired and wireless Ethernet-based remote access and control applications.

"This new TCP/IP stack is just the next step in ZiLOG's efforts to provide a full-featured 8-bit network solution that includes silicon, protocol software and development tools," said Michael Gershowitz, Director of Product Marketing for Microcontrollers at ZiLOG. "This new TCP/IP stack, which includes a dedicated technical support line for the software, underlines ZiLOG's ongoing commitment to providing a comprehensive and scalable toolset to its customers."

The ZiLOG TCP/IP protocol stack enables design engineers to build high-performance embedded networking products at very low cost. The new protocol stack supports TCP, UDP, IP, ARP, RARP, ICMP, IGMP, PPP, Ethernet, HTTP, SMTP, DHCP/BOOTP, SNMP, TFTP, TELNET, and TIMEP protocols. It includes enhancements such as SNMPv1 support and other user-extensible MIBs. Registered ZiLOG customers can download it for free directly from ZiLOG's Web site. The new protocol stack is backward-compatible with ZiLOG's previous TCP/IP software.

About eZ80Acclaim! Flash Microcontroller Family

The eZ80Acclaim! family offers a robust on chip reprogrammable Flash memory (up to 256KB), as well as up to 8KB of SRAM. Additionally, these products include an optimized, power-efficient pipelined architecture with an upgraded Z80 50MHz core and an enhanced instruction set which insure optimal and superior performance.

Key features include an on-chip 10/100BaseT Ethernet MAC (media access controller) with an 8KB high-speed packet buffer, embedded TCP/IP software supporting a host of standard protocols, and a complete design kit. An Infrared Encoder/Decoder provides IrDA-compatibility, which extends the Ethernet/Internet connections to wireless handheld products. All products in the eZ80Acclaim! family offer backwards compatibility with ZiLOG's popular Z80 family of microprocessors allowing leverage of prior investment in software application code and enhancing time to market of product development for Z80 users.
