NEW YORK (Ticker) - Houston Astros second baseman Jeff Kent was suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball on Tuesday for his actions in a July 26 game against the Chicago Cubs.

Kent was ejected in the sixth inning by plate umpire Matt Hollowell after arguing a call on a checked swing. While disputing his ejection, Kent shoved Astros manager Jimy Williams - who also was tossed - into Hollowell.

Unless he files an appeal, Kent will begin serving the suspension Tuesday night against the New York Mets.

Signed as a free agent in the offseason, the 35-year-old Kent is hitting .294 with 14 home runs and 55 RBI in 85 games. He missed three weeks due to a left wrist injury.
