SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 2003--Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG) (AEX:PHI) today announced BenQ, a leading manufacturer of digital lifestyle devices, as a key customer for its industry-proven Nexperia(TM) DVD+R/+RW system solutions. BenQ is leveraging Philips' Nexperia PNX7850 processor to lead the speed race for DVD+R/+RW optical engines for personal computing (PC) applications. BenQ is also using Philips' Nexperia PNX7100-based DVD+R/+RW reference design to introduce its living room DVD recorders quickly into the high-volume consumer market at competitive price points. This latest customer win reinforces Philips' commitment to providing semiconductor-based solutions for connected consumer applications.

Philips' complete system solutions have provided the industry's foremost manufacturers with all of the technology and software needed to introduce robust DVD recording devices that are in full compliance with the industry's preferred format, DVD+R/+RW. To address the speed requirement inherent in the PC domain, Philips' Nexperia PNX7850 processor will power BenQ's 4x and forthcoming 8x DVD+RW models.

In order to target the fast-growing consumer A/V market, BenQ is also the latest among a roster of leading DVD manufacturers to select Philips' DVD+R/+RW reference design to offer a reliable DVD+RW model for the home environment. BenQ plans to introduce its Nexperia PNX7100-based DVD+R/+RW recorder at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) show later this month.
