LILLE, France, Aug 12 (AFP) - French customs agents said Tuesday they had seized nearly 2.5 tonnes of contraband cigarettes worth an estimated 450,000 euros (510,000 dollars) from a lorry in northern France en route to Britain.

Agents at the Gravelines checkpoint near the Channel port of Dunkirk on Monday found 122,180 packs of cigarettes aboard the truck, which was driven by a German national. He was summoned to appear before a Dunkirk criminal court.
