| Chargers release DB Ryan McNeil
CARSON, California (Ticker) - Continuing to reshape their secondary, the San Diego Chargers on Tuesday released veteran defensive back Ryan McNeil. A 10-year veteran, McNeil spent the last two seasons with the Chargers. He started 15 games at right cornerback last season, collecting 79 tackles and one interception. The Chargers ranked near the bottom of the NFL against the pass in 2002 and are in the process of revamping their secondary. In April's draft, the club selected defensive backs with its first three picks. In the offseason, McNeil had been working at free safety. McNeil, 32, also has played for Detroit, St. Louis, Cleveland and Dallas in his career. In 157 games - 136 starts - McNeil has totaled 31 interceptions and 745 tackles.
