Indonesian VP warns of closure of television station airing pornography

JAKARTA, Aug 12 (AFP) - The Indonesian government may close down television stations which frequently air programs with pornographic content, Vice President Hamzah Haz warned Tuesday.

"Just inform the government (of such TV stations). The government will close TV stations which show pornographic films," Haz said according to the state Antara news agency.

He called on the Religious Affairs Ministry to monitor and reprimand TV stations which air pornographic films or programs with pornographic content.

"The Religious Affairs Ministry could warn the TV stations a first, a second and a third time. If they continue to do so, the ministry could ask the government to close them," Haz said.

He called on students participating at a seminar held by his office that they should also take part in stamping out pornography.
