Mercker, who has pitched for eight different teams, returns to the club that selected him fifth overall in the 1986 draft. The 35-year-old made his major league debut with the Braves in 1989. The highlight of his career came on April 8, 1994, when he pitched a no-hitter for Atlanta against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. "I was looking at the standings on the internet, and (the Braves) are 12 games up," Mercker said. "It amazes me that they want me. They got rid of me once. I guess they think with a 12-game lead, I can't screw it up." Mercker provides another veteran arm in the bullpen of the Braves.
