In the National Hockey League, Carolina's Kevyn Adams scored with just one second remaining in overtime to lift the Hurricanes to a 3-2 win over the Thrashers in Atlanta.

The Thrashers had tied the game Friday with just 12 seconds on the clock in regulation.

The Tampa Bay Lightning also won an overtime contest when Dave Andreychuk scored midway through the extra five-minute period to get by the visiting New Jersey Devils, 3-2. The Lightning set a franchise record with its seventh straight victory.

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the visiting Ottawa Senators, 5-3 in a game that erupted into five brawls in the final two minutes. The Senators ended the game with just six available players opposed to only seven for the Flyers after penalties were issued to all the players involved in the fights. The 419 total penalty minutes for the game set an NHL record.

The Detroit Red Wings used a goal and two assists by Nicklas Lindstrom to improve on the league's best record, downing the visiting Vancouver Canucks, 3-1.

Other winners were the Rangers, Stars, Avalanche, Mighty Ducks and Canadiens.

The New York Rangers edged the visiting Washington Capitals, 3-2. The Dallas Stars crushed the Calgary Flames 5-1 in Dallas. The Colorado Avalanche used a goal and two assists by Joe Sakic to defeat the San Jose Sharks by the same score, 5-1. The Anaheim Mighty Ducks recorded their third straight win by muffling the Blackhawks, 5-2 in Chicago. The Montreal Canadiens eked out a 4-3 win over host Phoenix Coyotes.
