At a farewell banquet in Xinjiang province Sunday, the Senate's president pro tempore told his hosts the United States attaches great importance to its relations with Chinese leaders.
Leading a U.S. congressional delegation, Mr. Stevens met with Chinese President Hu Jintao and premier Wen Jiabao, as well as Chinese congressional leaders.
The delegation was the highest ranking U.S. legislative group to visit the Republic in seven years. It expanded a program created in 1999 by the People's Congress and the U.S. House of Representatives.
