Mr. Moll was born in 1889, the same year the Eiffel Tower was completed in Paris. He was recognized as the world's oldest man by the Guinness Book of World Records after Japan's Yukichi Chuganji died last year.

Mr. Moll attributed his longevity to a moderate lifestyle that included socializing with friends, riding his bike until he was over 100 years old, and taking walks. He smoked, but as he put it, "not too much."

The Spaniard never stopped marveling at some of the technological advances that came about during his lifetime. He was particularly enamored with the invention of the airplane and electricity.

Mr. Moll is survived by his brothers - both of whom are older than 97 - and his daughter, Paca.
