Midfielder Vincent Simon scored in the 30th minute for Tahiti, but Batram Suri equalized for the host Solomon Islands 50 minutes later. Tahiti was under added pressure after New Caledonia defeated Tonga, 8-0, in an earlier match.
Solomons and Tahiti advance to the next round of the Oceania qualifying tournament, which starts in Adelaide, Australia later this month. The top two teams in the second round play off for the right to face the fifth placed South American team for a berth in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
