U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft is still in the hospital for treatment of a painful abdominal illness known as gallstone pancreatitis.

The Justice Department says Mr. Ashcroft's condition has not changed, and he remains in intensive care.

Mr. Ashcroft left work Thursday suffering what he thought was stomach flu. He went to a hospital Thursday night on the advice of a doctor.

He is being treated at George Washington University Hospital in Washington.

Mr. Ashcroft's condition is not considered life-threatening and is usually resolved within a week with treatment.
