A ceasefire between the Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah is holding, after five days of fighting that left more than 30 Palestinians dead. VOA's Jim Teeple has details from our Jerusalem Bureau.

Fatah and Hamas negotiators reached agreement, early Tuesday, to stop their fighting. Hamas Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar says the agreement calls for gunmen from both factions to return to their bases.

Zahar says hostages seized by both factions should be released and roadblocks should be removed.

Previous truces between Hamas and Fatah have not lasted long, with both sides using a lull in the fighting to regroup and rearm.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Tuesday. Both Egypt and Saudi Arabia have been trying to mediate the Hamas-Fatah power struggle.

Meanwhile, one day after a Palestinian suicide bomber killed three Israelis and himself in the resort city, Eilat, Israeli forces bombed a tunnel on the Gaza border with Israel. Israeli authorities say it was going to be used by Palestinians to carry out attacks against Israel.
