Storm cuts off power to thousands, damages homes 

An apparent tornado has struck the New Orleans area, killing an elderly woman and injuring several other people.

The storm hit overnight Tuesday. It cut off power to thousands, damaged homes and ripped the roof off of a hotel.

Many of the affected residents are still trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina which devastated parts of New Orleans and the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2005.
