The legislators were members of El Salvador's ruling party and include Eduardo D'Aubuisson, the son of late right-wing leader Roberto D'Aubuisson.

The elder D'Aubuisson was allegedly involved in forming death squads during El Salvador's civil war. The two other legislators were William Pichinte and Jose Ramon Gonzalez.

El Salvador's President Tony Saca has condemned the killings and charged that they were premeditated.
