Germany, which currently holds the rotating European Union presidency, has been pushing to get the Middle East quartet more involved in peace efforts. Quartet members include the EU, Russia, the United States and the United Nations.
Meanwhile, Israel's Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh says Israel and the Palestinians should be able to reach a final peace deal within two years of resuming negotiations.
Speaking at a conference in Netanya Thursday, Sneh said two years are enough to conclude a detailed agreement.
During her trip to the Middle East, Rice said she will soon hold a joint meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in hopes of reviving peace talks.
