Officials of a Thai energy company have signed a deal with Burma's military government for the Thai company to conduct oil and gas exploration in Burma's Gulf of Martaban.

The agreement signed Saturday in Yangon calls for Thailand's PTTEP International to explore an offshore site adjacent to the Yanada natural gas field currently operated by the company.

The contract was executed in the presence of Thai Energy Minister Prommin Lertsuridej and his Burma counterpart, Brigadier General Lun Thi.

The parties also inked an agreement covering cooperation on renewable energy and energy conservation.
