President Bush is set to ask Congress for an additional $100 billion for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan this year -- and a greater sum for 2008.
A senior administration official, asking not to be named, said Mr. Bush will submit his request on Monday. The $100 billion comes on top of $70 billion already approved by Congress for this fiscal year.

The 2008 request is for $145 billion.
The amounts are more than twice than those projected last year by the Congressional Budget office.
Congress must approve the president's request. Several lawmakers have introduced resolutions opposing his recent decision to increase the number of U.S. troops in Iraq. But there has been little indication so far that Congress would cut funding for operations.
