She made the comments after meeting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank town of Ramallah. Rice also discussed Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts with Jordan's King Abdullah in Amman Sunday.

The king said progress must be made in implementing the "road map" peace plan in order to spare the region from further violence.

Secretary Rice has said Washington remains committed to the road map and is not bringing any new peace initiatives to the region.
