An opposition member of Angola's parliament has been gunned down in the capital, Luanda.

Angolan police said Mfulumpinga Landu Victor, member of the Democratic Party for Progress-Angolan National Alliance, was shot dead late Friday near his party's headquarters.

Reports said Mr. Victor was a strong critic of the ruling Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola.

Reuters news agency quotes an opposition party leader, Sediangani Mbibi, as saying Mr. Victor's murder was ordered by the ruling party.

There was no immediate comment from the ruling party about the allegation.
