The president said he, along with many Americans, is praying for the victims and for their families. He also offered federal help in the investigation and assistance to those affected by the shootings.
Both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives observed a moment of silence today in memory of the victims.
Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said the university was struck by a monumental tragedy. He called the shootings "senseless and heinous acts." Steger said classes have been canceled for Monday and Tuesday, and counseling services will be available for traumatized students.
