Rocket-propelled grenade attack at US embassy in Athens on January 12 caused damage but no injuries

The Greek and U.S. governments have each offered million-dollar rewards for information that could lead to the arrest of members of an extremist group responsible for a January attack on the U.S. Embassy in Athens.

The Greek Public Order Ministry Tuesday said it is offering $1 million for information leading to the dismantling of the far-left Revolutionary Struggle organization. It pledged to guarantee anonymity for those providing the information.

The U.S. Embassy in Athens later announced a similar million-dollar reward as well as the possibility of relocation for informants and their family members.

The Revolutionary Struggle group claimed responsibility for firing a rocket-propelled grenade at the U.S. embassy building January 12. The blast damaged a third floor bathroom, but caused no injuries.

The guerrilla group has carried out several attacks in the past three years.

It emerged after the government in 2002 dismantled the November 17 Marxist group, which had terrorized the country for several decades.
